Quartz countertops have recently become one of the most requested materials in kitchen remodels.
Quartz is one of the hardest minerals found on earth and it is used to make many everyday products including sandpaper, glass, circuit boards, cement, and jewelry among others. In recent years, quartz has also become a very popular choice for kitchen countertops.
Countertops made from quartz differ from natural stone countertops because the slabs for quartz are fabricated in a factory unlike the slabs of natural stone which are mined. Quartz slabs are composed of approximately 94 percent ground natural quartz crystals fused with resin binders to form the slab and pigment to give it color.
ENDLESS COLOR OPTIONS
Traditionally, quartz has been seen as an inferior option for countertops because it could not recreate the color variations and patterns of natural stone. However, this is no longer the case as quartz countertops are available in a variety of impressive designs with colors from reds and greens to more earthy browns, blacks, and creams. Many manufacturers can also make multihued slabs and add metallic flecks, swirls, patterns, and veining to mimic the look of natural stone. Quartz countertops used to be offered only with a polished finish but are now available with honed, sandblasted, or embossed treatments as well to recreate matte, textured, and glossy looks.
QUARTZ IS NON-POROUS
Quartz countertops are non-porous, meaning they do not easily absorb liquids and are more stain-resistant than many other types of natural stone. Quartz will stands up to juice, oil, wine, tomato, coffee and other sources of stains. The non-porous surface also means that it will not harbor bacteria or viruses.
